About Me

Community Connection

Community Connection

Community Connection

For 25-years I've lived in District One with my husband Jim.  I've been both a renter and a working-class home-owner; I've  worked at local businesses and have also run my own small sewing studio. I'm a community volunteer and have managed non-profit animal rescue programs. That deep history and connection helps me see all sides of  neighborhood and city issues.

Community Connection

For the past five years through the Bayside Neighborhood Association I've listened, learned, and built strong relationships with neighbors, local businesses, city leaders, and non-profits. I've advocated for creative problem solving and smart decision making; served on City panels and in working groups; and brought people together to find solutions to shared challenges.

Community Vision

I'm running for city council because Portland needs committed and thoughtful non-partisan leaders who focus on common sense solutions that support the entire community.  I take a balanced, collaborative approach to finding realistic solutions proportionate to Portland's needs. I will work as hard for all of District One as I have for my neighbors in Bayside.

I'M committed to:

  • Keeping Portland Affordable, Sustainable, and Livable for everyone
Being a voice of balance and collaboration
  • Providing pragmatic solutions proportionate to Portland's needs and making sound financial decisions
  • Making City government and systems easier to navigate
  • Advocating for local and regional solutions to issues such as homelessness and affordable housing
  • Supporting increased investment in METRO and working to ensure adequate Islander parking
  • Being accessible, transparent, and open-minded

Community Experience

  • Advocating for City support of affordable, market rate, and 55 + housing & housing for people exiting homelessness

  • Successfully lobbying the City for accessible bathrooms and storage for guests at the Oxford Street Shelter

  • Working with developers to add on-street parking

  • Sustaining and protecting the Bayside Community Garden and making gardening more accessible and affordable to low-income gardeners

  • Bringing LED street lighting  to the most underserved areas in Bayside and advocating for sidewalk and street improvements

  •  Supporting long term climate action planning through Bayside Adapts, which began a community conversation about sea-level rise mitigation; collaborating with East Bayside to support natural climate change response through a living shoreline pilot study

  • Advocating to address environmental inequity and bring more trees to District One's most vulnerable neighborhoods by earmarking developer's fees from the City tree fund

  • Building community connections by engaging residents, business, and social services in neighborhood cleanups

  • Participating in statewide homelessness planning meetings and a Portland-specific focus group; advocating for both regional and local solutions to homelessness

  • Organizing and facilitating community stakeholder meetings and informational forums.

  • Working tirelessly to support the creation of a safe, modern and efficient homeless services center to replace the outdated and overcrowded Oxford Street Shelter
